Mrs White's cat, Mimi, ran away on Monday. Mrs White put up notices all over the street with a photo and her phone number.
On Tuesday a boy called her. "I saw a cat near the school garden," he said. Mrs White ran there at once, but the cat was not Mimi.
On Wednesday it rained. Mrs White went out with an umbrella and called Mimi's name again and again. Late in the evening she heard a soft sound from under a car. There was Mimi, thin and wet, but alive.
She took Mimi home, dried her with a towel and gave her some warm milk. Mimi slept for fourteen hours.
